One-to-one support
A fully trained Volunteer Family Mentor is matched with the family and visits them in their home for an agreed period of time a couple of hours each week. The Family Mentor provides practical and emotional support to help the family work through the challenges they are facing, for example, they:
- Provide strategies and support to assist parents with issues such as routines, healthy eating or managing challenging behaviours
- Help them get out of the house to visit groups and meet people
- Sign post the family to other support services, help with paperwork and attend meetings with them if necessary
“We will always gratefully remember the help and support we received from Home-Start when our twins came along (they have just turned 6!). It was a difficult time as we already had a 2 year old. The hands-on help and the emotional support made a huge difference to all our lives.”

Group Support
Our Family Groups are led by a dedicated Family Group Leader and supported by trained volunteers. They take place weekly during term time in local community venues, offering families a welcoming and supportive space.
These groups are designed to provide a safe and understanding environment for families who may be experiencing challenges such as social isolation, anxiety or difficulties managing their child’s behaviour. By coming together, families can build connections, share experiences and access the guidance and encouragement they need.
